About Us
On October 2, 2003, in Toronto, Canada, Dr. Roger B. Alfani was entrusted with a comprehensive mandate or vision, leading to the establishment of Covenant Impact Academy, hereafter referred to as Impact Academy or the Academy, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
This vision has significantly influenced Dr. Alfani’s educational pursuits, academic focus, and professional trajectory. At the heart of Impact Academy’s mission is the restoration of human dignity in a nation that has endured historical atrocities, including those perpetrated by King Leopold II and colonial powers. The Democratic Republic of Congo has faced prolonged socio-political and economic challenges, marked by dictatorship, mass killings, and forced displacements.
In his book titled “Religious Peacebuilding in the Democratic Republic of Congo” (2019), Dr. Alfani delves into the root causes of the ongoing conflict in the DRC. The book proposes a hybrid approach, incorporating both top-down and grassroots strategies, to foster sustainable positive peace.
The fulfillment of Impact Academy’s mandate relies on four interconnected and cyclical components, constituting the mindset of Impact Academicians: Knowledge, freedom, peace, and legacy. The Academy emphasizes the importance of creative, practical, and relevant knowledge, enabling individuals to discern dormant potentials and ethically address challenges they encounter. Impact Academy advocates for a liberative and intergenerational form of knowledge, providing a critical understanding of situations and environments. This knowledge not only breaks away from established norms but also ensures the bequeathing of a peaceful and illustrious legacy to future generations.
To realize this vision, Dr. Alfani has garnered support from friends, colleagues, and individuals of goodwill from various locations, including Canada, Congo, France, Mali, and the United States. These individuals share a common mindset as Impact Academicians and are united by the shared desire to witness the restoration of human dignity to the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
